A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.    John 13:34

******************************

A new commandment. I had to laugh a little when I read this.  All the commandments are based on love; love for God and love for each other.  Love doesn’t disrespect God.  Love doesn’t murder, commit adultery, or steal.  Really; just how new is this commandment?

But then we have 6000 years or so of humanity doing those things in more and more blatant and creative ways.  It seems that the commandment to love isn’t new in history.  It’s new to us today.

Love each other as Jesus loved us.  That’s a tall order, considering His voluntary death in our place.  After all, greater love no on has than to lay down one’s life for another.

Do you love someone enough to die for them?  Or at least let them have the last piece of cake?  Hold the door for them?  Compliment a parent on their child’s good behavior?  Let another driver into your lane ahead of you?

Love.  Do it.  Live it.

Your ideas are important too!
