But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”    Acts 1:8

Someone once wrote that we should never compare ourselves to other Christians throughout history.  We will always come up short next to the Apostles and the hundreds of martyrs of the early church who chose gruesome deaths over recanting their faith.

But that someone also pointed out that we will be strengthened with such faith when such times come.  It happened the same way for all those brave, early Christians.

Look at today’s verse; Jesus tells them they will receive power later…when it’s time.  They cowered in a house, terrified of the Jews.  Then the Holy Spirit came with the sound of a mighty wind.  Those same disciples left the house and began speaking in languages they didn’t know, boldly proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah to people from every country.

One second, cowering in the dark.  The next, they were fearless in the streets.

God gives as needed.  Pray.  Study your Bible.  Be prepared for the time of challenge and the faith that will come!

  1. Right! It’s God power that makes all the difference. This is why the religious leaders scratched their heads when they heard the Peter and John powerfully share the gospel of Christ. They realized that these were unlearned men–smelly fishermen. Blessings!

Your ideas are important too!
