And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the [e]edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ. Ephesians 4:11-15
The verse assigned for today was only verse 15. I don’t think it stands alone well. Context is everything! So, I added verses 11-14.
Paul wrote to the Ephesians about the importance of recognizing they all have different spiritual gifts. Some do this…some do that. But that does not mean we go in different directions! We are all to move in one direction – towards Christ!
We all move toward greater understanding of Scripture and the things God would have us know and do. In that mature knowledge, we are protected from the abundant heresies of our times!
Like rowers all rowing their boat in the same direction, we each pull on our individual oars, straining to arrive at…love. Knowing what is right. Speaking about it with love to others. Having all of us part of the body of Christ!
