And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”    1 Peter 4:8

Peter is describing what modern sociologists call “social credit.”  It’s the idea that you’ll be more tolerant of someone you have good feelings for than someone you dislike.  The more you love someone, the more you will tolerate.

Up to a point, that is.  Just like with financial credit, social credit can get used up.  Accounts run dry, and bad behavior is not tolerated at all.  The object of affection becomes the object of dislike, even hate.

But love/social credit will indeed cover a multitude of sins.  The thing about the love Peter is calling for is God’s love, which never runs dry.

We should have His fervent love for all, such that our love does not run dry.  We should always strive to be the beacon of love that will draw the lost home to Jesus!

Your ideas are important too!
