“…Your scientists were so pre-occupied over whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) in “Jurassic Park.”
Babies With Genes From Three People Could Be Ethical, Panel Says
Oh, my! I’m not even sure where to start with this one. It looks so wrong on the face of it that I can’t believe it’s an issue to be discussed. And why do I keep hearing “puppy-monkey-baby” in my head? Well, here we go.
First, how do you even do this? Is it like good old Shake ‘n’ Bake: “Put all the reproductive…stuff…into a beaker, shake gently for 3-5 minutes, and put in the oven for nine months.”
Apparently, they have found a way. If you read my 1/28/2016 bog, “Giants, Old Testament Slaughter, Greek Gods, Bigfoot, and Technology,” there was a section where I told of a recent article where scientists have found a way to actually combine species in the laboratory, producing a modern-day chimera right out of ancient myth. I never thought that would be possible. Different species?
So three parents must be a breeze. Especially with the comforting reassurance that it “Could be ethical.”
So there’s your problem. They think THEY are the ones to decide the ethics of the world. There’s no recognition of God, the Guy who made all of this, Who designed systems to BE people, provide a good environment for people, and have a means to make more people.
“…and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.” Mark 10:8
I think that has a double meaning. First, they are joined as one entity, one item, one flesh. How else do you explain the pain of divorce, even when they’ve come to hate each other? They’ve had half of themselves removed; a spouse-ectomy, if you will.
Second, they symbolize the unity and completeness of God in their union. They join in the act of creation when they produce a child. One flesh.
One man, one woman, one sperm, one egg, and one child. Repeat as needed.
I understand science and medicine as valid, God-given abilities to help ourselves, cure ills, and prolong life. This, however, has crossed a line that too many people do not see. They do not see it when they are starting to move from repair to creation. It’s the difference between engineering you and just keeping you in good repair. Nothing is being cured with this three parent offspring work. Are they possibly preventing diseases in the future? Perhaps, but at what cost? Who knows how some of these experimental, three parent kids will turn out? Will they be a home run on the first swing or a tortured mess because someone guessed wrong? What about those? Will the genetics engineers just abort that one quietly, out of sight? Back to the drawing board.
While one might applaud their determination to make the world better, make the people better, they lack a basic understanding of the world we inhabit. They don’t understand, because they have scienced God out of His own creation! Without Him, they can’t understand that the Devil is in charge here. This is his playground until his appointed time.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
We aren’t going to best Satan with test tubes and Petri dishes. We cannot wipe out disease. It suddenly occurs to me that they are dangerously close to the Nazis of World War II. The Nazis were chasing down a genetically pure Aryan race. Experiments were performed on many sets of twins to better understand genetics as they pursued their “perfect human” goal. Today’s geneticists want to engineer a newer, better human race.
The geneticists may even being playing right into Satan’s clawed fingers. Back to the blog referred to above, one of his “projects” was genetic distortion and dilution of the human species, starting with the fallen angels mating with women and then man/beast creatures. Who knows what could come of this?
Let’s leave creation to God. Let’s use his gifts of science to maintain and protect who and what we are. Let’s not try to edge into His realm of creation.
